Because all these rad dudes are doing it.

Perhaps my favorite film, Monte Hellman’s 1971 Two Lane Blacktop, I could never recommend this film enough, and I am asking you nicely to watch it. Thanks.

I am proud to call perhaps the top authority on Monte Hellman in the country a good friend of mine and all queries relating to Monte, Two Lane, 1971 or American New Wave in general should be directed to his excellent site The Rushmore Film Society.

I fucking hated Avatar. Firstly fuck Avatar for being all anyone could talk about most of this summer.

This film makes me sick, in more ways than one. When people talk to me about this film i pretty much hear two things:

“The technology is just a gimmick, its not so great, but 3D is just another tool to tell the story”

or

“I know the story was pretty bad, but forget the story, it looked awesome!”

To the former; the story is fucking awful, it is Fern Gully retold in a much longer time. Its a shame the 3d did not extend to the characters, what kind of hero needs to be transplanted into the body of an alien and live among their culture before he realises that the slaughter and gentrification of an entire race is wrong?

To the Latter; It looked awful, the 3D technology robs the image of all depth and simply segments and layers the image, furthermore due to the focus and perspective used to make the objects stand out from one another makes the viewer sick when they attempt to look at other objects or areas in the frame, to me this is fucking fundamentally wrong.

Who the fuck wants to drop 18 dollars to see a story they have already seen and be made physically ill unless they direct their attention only where James Cameron wants it in a shot………apparently everyone.

This is why i worry.
